Why We Held a 4,855-Profile Florida CPA Candidate Batch
· Guide · 2 min read
Good coverage work sometimes means deciding not to add a large batch yet. During a Florida CPA-firm source review, we found 4,855 distinct candidate address identities after matching a state workbook against all statuses in our existing firm catalog. We have not imported these candidates because the file’s own date does not support treating its license status as current today.
The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation page describes CPA (0101) and firm (0102) worksheets and license fields. The downloadable workbook we reviewed was internally dated July 9, 2026, even though the page itself showed an October update. A page’s recent update date is not always the same as the date of the underlying records.
What the matching found
The workbook’s firm sheet had 4,933 entries marked Current with an unexpired date as of the file. We compared firm names, license identity, and complete address fields against 17,359 profiles across every status in the existing catalog. Seven exact identities already existed, 70 records were held for collisions or identity ambiguity, and 4,855 candidate identities remained. The source address is an address of record; it is not independent confirmation of a customer-facing office.
Why the date changes the decision
A professional license is a time-sensitive fact. An entry marked current in a July workbook cannot establish a firm’s standing in October without a fresher export or a direct verification against the regulator’s current lookup. Publishing it as if we had checked today would overstate what the source supports.
For that reason, the candidate batch remains unpublished until a fresh weekly file or a live license check can confirm the records. This keeps the directory’s visible coverage separate from the size of a file that happens to be available for download.
How to check a CPA firm
- Confirm the firm’s legal or registered name and license number with the state board.
- Check current standing in the regulator’s live lookup; do not rely only on an old spreadsheet.
- Ask the firm which services it provides and whether it has capacity for your needs.
- Confirm the office address and contact details directly before sharing sensitive records.
Use our CPA directory by city as a starting point, then verify credentials and availability with the firm and the Florida DBPR CPA source. A smaller, current list is more useful than a larger list whose status cannot be checked.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Did CPA Ranked add 4,855 Florida firms from this workbook?
- No. They are candidate address identities from an older workbook and were not imported as current profiles.
- Why was the workbook held?
- The public page appeared recently updated, but the workbook itself was dated July 9, 2026. License standing can change, so the older file needs a fresh source or live license check.
- What did the candidate matching show?
- Strict firm-name, license, and address matching found 4,855 potential new identities, 7 exact existing matches, and 70 records held for identity conflicts.
